New Directions program is an educational initiative jointly sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston and ADL New England That brings to life the watershed Vatican II Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions—Nostra Aetate.

Forty years ago Vatican II made historic changes in the Church’s teaching about non-Christian religions. The document, Nostra Aetate revolutionized the Church’s relationship with the Jewish community and, among other things, repudiated the centuries old “deicide” charge.

The New Directions program brings the mandate of Nostra Aetate to the parishes through consultations and workshops for Catholic religious educators, catechists, and Directors of Religious Education. The program’s aim is to help Catholic religious educators teach their own faith with a heightened consciousness and consideration of the Jewish roots of their tradition.

In 2007 workshops were developed for Jewish educators to explore “the parting of the ways” and how the Church’s teachings have changed.
